A silver PT Cruiser struck a pick up truck and then a pedestrian in front of an Anaheim school early this morning. The accident, which occurred around 6:30 a.m., took place near the intersection of Palm Lane and Laora Street in front of Pine Lane Elementary after the Cruiser struck a parked silver Toyota Tacoma. It glanced off the vehicle before hitting the female pedestrian. The driver, who was also a woman, was not harmed in the crash.
The pedestrian was taken to a local area hospital but her injuries were minor. Authorities believe that impacting the truck slowed the PT Cruiser down enough so that the woman’s injuries were less severe.

An employee of a local Walgreen’s was struck by a car and killed Thursday evening after attempting to walk to work. The incident occurred when a Lexus hit 64-year-old Gail Connelle while she was crossing Beach Avenue just north of Chapman at around 10:54 p.m. The woman had just hopped off a bus and began to cross the street towards her job when the 65-year-old male Lexus driver, who was traveling north on Beach Boulevard, collided with her. Gail was taken to an area medical center where she died. Police are still investigating the incident to see if she was within the crosswalk when the accident occurred.

A Pomona jury convicted 20-year-old Robert Canizalez and 23-year-old Martin Ariel Morones on June 29th of gross vehicular manslaughter and second degree murder for the deaths of 41-year-old Dora Groce, her 8-year-old-son Robert and 4 year-old-daughter Catherine, who died after the two men engaged in a street racing incident. Today. they received their sentences, with Robert Canizalez, being given 48 years to life, and Martin Ariel Morones being sentenced to 45 years to life. The two will be eligible for parole after serving more than 20 years.
In October 2007 Canizalez drove a red Ford Mustang while Morones drove a Honda Accord and began racing one another 5:15 and 5:45 p.m. along Parkway Drive. Groce pulled her Nissan Altima out of the Brookside Mobile Country Club onto Elliott Avenue around the same time and her vehicle was broadsided by Canizalez. The victim’s car was pushed 50 feet before it burst into flames killing all inside.

At 10:24 a.m. Anaheim police received a call about a multiple vehicle crash that happened at the intersection of Ball Road and East Street. The crash, which involved 1 SUV and three trucks, closed the westbound lanes of ball slowing traffic to a near standstill. One woman is dead after her car crashed into a garbage truck in Wilmington. A single vehicle accident on highway 101 left a 1-year-old boy seriously injured. The early morning accident, which occurred at 12:01 am in Carpinteria, was the result of the driver, Jose Rosales of Long Beach, falling asleep at the wheel of the vehicle. The vehicle drifted into the shoulder of the road, alerting Rosales who attempted to steer back into the road but lost control. The vehicle then skidded off the highway, flipping over onto its roof after hitting a traffic sign.
The 1-year-old seated in a child seat was the only severely injured victim of the accident, as each of the remaining 4 occupants were fastened in seatbelts when the accident occurred. The other occupants, a 2-year-old, 35-year-old and 37-year-old parents, and Rosales, each suffered minor injuries during the accident, according to officials. The five occupants, all family members, were escorted to a Santa Barbara hospital for treatment of their injuries. The highway closed for a short period as investigation of the rollover accident took place.

An SUV rollover accident in Huntington Beach caused a Toyota 4Runner to lose its wheel and sent 4 people to the hospital. A multi-car accident on a freeway in San Fernando Valley is reported to have injured seven, five of which were injured seriously.
