Los Angeles Fires Heat Up, Injuring Several So Far

The summer heat has most certainly been apparent in Los Angeles, as numerous wildfires have ensued within the past week. Beyond the resulting natural damage, these Los Angeles fires have also been the cause in several fire caused injuries.

On August 31st, a fire that blazed throughout Angeles National Forest entered into a prison camp uncontrollably, despite efforts from firefighters to do otherwise. Initially, inmates were escorted from the premises to a dining hall, where it was thought they would be safe from harm. However, it would eventually prove otherwise, and another place of shelter was required. In pursuit of shelter, firefighters Ted Hall and Arnie Quinones advanced down Mount Gleason to find an escape route, an action that unfortunately ended fatal for both courageous men. Covered by smoke from the flames, the condition of the already unsafe road was worsened, causing the truck to lose control and fall from the road. Both men, Hall and Quinones, died in the fall – trying to save the lives of others, something which clearly was much more than a job to them.

In La Canada Flintridge, the severity of fires warranted evacuations in one area, but not everyone followed orders to evacuate. One family, of the Big Tujunga neighborhood, thought the evacuation was an unnecessary precaution and remained within their home, against the requests of local authorities. As the fire worsened, the two residents sought shelter in what they believed to be an adequate form of protection – their hot tub. Unfortunately, the fire reached the two residents, leaving both with burn injuries. They were taken by airlift to a nearby hospital, where they will receive treatment for their injuries.

Also affected during the recent number of Los Angeles fires were another five individuals that did not take heed to warnings and orders for mandatory evacuation. Monday night, cries for help were received from the people who had been trapped, but firefighters have not been able to rescue them.

When Los Angeles Boy Drowns, Questions Are Raised

Questions have been raised concerning a boy that drowned last week in Bel Air, an accident that some believe may have been stopped fire officials had arrived in time. The same day of the drowning accident, Los Angeles fire department enforced its decision to downsize the number of engines, closing at least one engine servicing the Bel Air area that could have reached the drowning boy faster. When the drowning accident took place, the fire department did receive calls for help. At the time, the station’s two operating fire engines were out, having left only 94 minutes prior to the call. The engine that was now called to the accident arrived in more than 10 motes, a response time that evidently was not enough to save the young toddler’s life. Bill Ramsey, a retired paramedic, said his heart had been broken since the boy deserved more, according to reports. However, the local fire department reported that it was impossible to determine whether or not the now-disabled engine would have reached the boy in time.

Victims Fall Prey to Unprovoked Attack after 2 Men Spray Substance into Crowd

Indian patrons standing outside of the Bombay Garden restaurant in Artesia were attacked by two white males who sprayed the crowd with an unknown substance.  The incident occurred at 9:50 p.m. Monday evening at  17221 Pioneer Blvd.   Pat Patnaik, a member of the City of Cerritos Economic Development Commissions, reported that he and ten other people had emerged after an evening of dining and were saying goodbye  when a white van rolled up.  Two Caucasian males exited the vehicle, sprayed a white substance in the air in front of them, jumped back into the van and sped off.

The spray acted as an irritant, inflaming the eyes and nasal passages of the victims.  One of the injured noted the license plate number and called 911. Paramedics arrived on the scene and treated several victims with eyewash, although no one needed medical treatment.

When the police finally catch up with these scoundrels they will have much to atone for and may even be prosecuted under hate crime laws depending on their motivation for the attack. Victims could also look into filing  civil lawsuits against the perpetrators, especially if they discover that the substance causes diseases or a condition that leads to greater injury.  No matter the type of attack, if someone injures you or a loved one in a way that causes a disruption to your health and livelihood, you can hold them accountable for their actions.  Call our personal injury lawyers at 310.882.6810 after an unwarranted attack leads to bodily harm and threatens your long term physical health.

Truck Flies Over the Freeway; Lands on Street

A white, older model pick truck went over the side of the 55 freeway this afternoon according the CHP reports.  The solo truck accident occurred at around 1:52 p.m., but at the point of the report, did not have a verifiable cause. Witnesses indicated that the pickup truck had been traveling in the carpool lane of the 55 when it veered and suddenly hit the center divider.  The vehicle then went airborne, flipped and wound up on Dyer.  The unidentified pick up truck driver had to be cut from his truck via the Jaws of Life. Roughly 10 to 15 cars pulled onto the right shoulder of highway  to look, slowing traffic.

Indeed, an accident of this type must have been quite a spectacle, but he poor man trapped in his truck was probably terrified.  Upon his visit to the hospital, he probably learned he was seriously injured to boot.  What’s more, he may be confused as to how the accident occurred, especially if the wreck was proceeded by a malfunction of some sort.  Needless to say, if the truck accident was caused by a defective auto part, the individual could be entitled to damages.

Sometimes a solo accident is not the fault of the driver—it is the fault of a car manufacturer who places faulty brakes, shoddy electrical of a untrustworthy engine in the vehicle.  When this occurs, lives can put at risk.  If you or a loved one has been injured because of an automakers disregard for safety, contact our expert product liability lawyers.  They will help you understand your rights via a free legal consultation and help you recover the financial damages you need after a crippling car crash.

Whiplash and Soft Tissue Injuries – What this means for your Car Accident Case.

Many people are skeptical of claims for whiplash—until they are the victims of an injury that snaps their head and shoulders back and forth.. When they wake up the next day or two, they will feel extremely sore and stiff in their neck, upper back, and shoulders and may not make it to work or school.

Whiplash involves serious “soft-tissue” injuries to the tendons, ligaments, and muscles that support the neck, head, and back. Left untreated, a whiplash injury can cause tremendous pain and loss of range of motion for an extended period of time. You will need to be checked out by a doctor – preferably an orthopedic surgeon – to ensure that no bones were broken or displaced by the impact and that the injuries are indeed limited to the soft tissue in the neck, shoulders, and back area. You will most likely be put on a regimen of physical therapy to treat your injuries.

Broken Bones in an Accident in Los Angeles

If you have been in an accident, whether as a passenger in a vehicle, a pedestrian, a motorcyclist, a bicyclist, or otherwise caused by another person’s carelessness (“negligence”), you are entitled to compensation for your injuries, including any and all broken bones you may have suffered. A broken bone takes a while to heal. In some cases, the bone may not mend correctly and surgery may be required to reset the bone.

Some bones will require a plate with screws or even an artificial replacement, such as an artificial hip. If you have suffered a broken bone because of another person’s negligence, you do not want to settle the case too quickly or without an experienced lawyer helping you throughout the claim. You want to wait to see how the bone heals and whether there will be any permanent damage, such as a limp, for which you deserve to be monetarily compensated.  You may need future care and therapy.  Don’t settle your case without talking to a lawyer first.
