Metro Train Hits Police Car In Long Beach

A total of 12 people, including a police officer, were sent to a Long Beach hospital after a Metro Blue Line train and a Long Beach police car collided on Wednesday afternoon. The 11 others injured in the train accident were passengers on the train.

The train accident took place at around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Long Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway. The Long Beach police car was driving down the road as the train traveled southbound on the Blue Line. When the two collided, the car was forced down the train tracks for moments before the train actually stopped.

As a result of the forceful collision, the Long Beach police officer became pinned inside his car for approximately 30 minutes before emergency crews could remove him. He was then sent to the hospital with 11 passengers of the train. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The exact cause of the train accident is being investigated by authorities.

Los Angeles Blue Line Train Kills Man

Only a week after Metrolink trains killed two people last Wednesday, another fatal train accident has happened, according to reports. In downtown Los Angeles, a Blue Line train ran over a man who was on the tracks, killing him.

The Blue Line train accident in LA took pace at Flower Street and Venice Boulevard on Wednesday night, on the northbound tracks. When the train ran the man over, he became trapped underneath.

When paramedics arrived, the man was already dead. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, how the man ended up on the track is still unknown. Authorities suspect he must have either fell or jumped onto the tracks, accidentally or intentionally causing his own death.

The unidentified victim was around 50 years old, says authorities.

MetroLink Trains Hit Two Near Los Angeles and Orange Counties

In one day, two people in the SoCal area have become victims to train accidents involving MetroLink trains. Both victims of the train accidents, which took place on Wednesday June 23rd, were struck and killed.

The first train accident occured in Orange County, in the Oceanside region. At around 2:30 am, the conductor of a strain moving through Oceanside saw a man standing on the tracks, in the path of the train. Although the conductor applied his breaks, the train did not stop in time. The man was struck, and later determined dead. No passengers were injured, but the train was stopped and buses were provided to take them to other stations in the area. An investigation of this Oceanside train accident is ongoing.

The second train accident, occuring only hours later in the day, occured in Covina. A woman in her 30s or 40s was hit on the tracks at around 10:30 a.m. It is not known why the woman was on the tracks, or how she got there. An investigation of this Covina train accident has also started.

Outside Los Angeles in Watts, an unfortunate accident has taken the life of a woman who was struck by the Metro Blue line train. Yesterday afternoon, according to reports, the woman was walking along the tracks of the blue line when the accident took place near 115^th street. The woman of her 50s died at the scene of the accident. Since the woman was struck by a northbound train, all routes proceeding northbound were delayed temporarily for 15 minutes, approximately, but the train’s southbound line was able to continue normally. Metrolink is investigating a new accident after a train hit a woman in Pacoima. According to reports, the woman was driving on San Fernando Rd when she was struck by the Metrolink train. Officials reported that the car was considerably mangled when they arrived at the scene. The woman, 89, is now reported dead following the Pacoima train accident. The elderly woman was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The cause of the accident remains unclear.

Pedestrian Killed by a Train in Loma Linda

According to authorities, a 45-year-old Big Bear resident was struck and killed this morning by an oncoming train. Though details at press time are sketchy, authorities indicate that Johnny Rogers was hit near Anderson and Stewart Streets north of the Loma Linda Medical Center. While on the scene of the collision, Mr. Rogers succumbed to his injuries expiring at 1:05 a.m.

Federal investigators and the National Transportation Safety Board have confirmed that Robert Sanchez, the engineer operating the Metrolink train which crashed last Friday, was sending text messages moments before the deadly collision which left 25 dead and another 135 injured.

Currently, there is no federal or state law which prevents the use of cell phones used by railroad employees. Yesterday, the California Public Utilities Commission unanimously passed an emergency order to ban the use of mobile phones and other personal electronic devices while operating a train.

California Law Will Ban Cell Phone Use by Train Operators Amid Chatsworth Metrolink Crash

In less that a week after the deadly Metrolink train crash in Chatsworth, the California Public Utilities Commission has proposed a policy in California that would prohibit railroad operators from the personal use of cell phones and other wireless devices.

Speculation has increased over the cause of the crash, and reports surrounding the use of a cell phone to send text messages have become a focal point of investigation. Two teenagers from Chatsworth have told local news agencies that they received text messages just moments before the crash from Robert Sanchez, the engineer who is being blamed for the cause of the crash.

The emergency order proposed by the CPUC will also call on the Federal Railroad Administration to institute further safety measures on all railways in the United States. It is expected that the CPUC will vote for the emergency order this Thursday, September 18. It is expected to pass unanimously.

Metrolink Spokeswoman Resigns; Chatsworth Train Crash Investigation Continues

Denise Tyrell, the Metorlink spokeswoman who announced that an Engineer’s mistake caused the deadly Chatsworth train crash has resigned. Tyrell’s statement was considered premature by the Metrolink board. The National Safety Transportation Board announced on Sunday that it was indeed an engineer’s mistake which lead to the deadly train crash just north of Los Angeles.

Investigators are now looking into the possibility that the engineer who is being blamed for the crash may have been sending text messages immediately prior to the crash.
