A ten-year-old boy, Ricardo Mercado, was killed after being struck by an SUV in Los Angeles, on the morning of August 22, 2009. While walking across Tweedy Boulevard in South Gate with his family, a woman whose name has not yet been release made a left turn onto Tweedy and struck the family with her Volkswagen SUV. Witnesses told the police that the driver of the Volkswagen had been using a cell phone before the accident happened. Ricardo is survived by his family members, including his mother, Ana, and his two sisters, Anita, 12, and Leticia, 6.
The South Gate police say that there was little or no indication that the driver made any attempt to stop her vehicle before the accident. Her speed at the time of the accident was not clear. Mrs. Mercado and her daughters Anita and Leticia were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. An employee of a local Walgreen’s was struck by a car and killed Thursday evening after attempting to walk to work. A deceased individual was found in the middle of a South Los Angeles street, an apparent victim of a hit-and-run accident. Information about the body was provided to police at around 12:45 a.m. after a motorist swerved to avoid driving over the body.

Late Sunday night on Beach Boulevard in Fountain Valley, one man became critically injured and another was hospitalized in a pedestrian accident. 14-year-old Spencer Hoover was run down and killed by a hit-and-run driver in the Inglewood district at 1 am Monday morning. The boy was crossing the street when the car struck the youth and drug him 50 feet. Witnesses say that the impact severe enough to knock the teen out of his shoes. The driver not stop. A middle aged man was killed when the driver of a Fedex Truck lost control of his vehicle on Tuesday morning. A 51-year-old, John Winter was a pedestrian on East Park Avenue at the time of the accident, when the truck struck and killed him at around 8:30. Witnesses said the Fedex truck was traveling at high speeds, and then seemed to lose control and ram into vehicles on the road. After causing damage to several vehicles, the truck proceeded to hit the pedestrian. The man died upon impact from the Fedex truck.
The driver, unidentified, was interviewed following the accident, in which he was one of three injured. The driver in one of the vehicles that was hit, a woman , Bonnie Goetz, was also a victim of injuries in the accident. According to reports, the woman is now at home but sustained head injuries and neck injuries during the pedestrian accident.The pedestrian accident remains under investigation, but police have determined that neither drugs nor drunk driving were a factor in the accident.

A Whittier pedestrian was hit while attempting to cross a street Friday morning. The woman suffered injuries as a result of the pedestrian accident, which ended fatal as she died later in the day. A teenager was killed by a car after falling in front of the vehicle, an event which occurred as a result of a fight instigated by road rage. Joel Edwardo Sanchez, a 17-year-old boy from Los Angeles, was pronounced dead on Friday after falling victim in the car accident in Huntington Beach. The accident that occurred before 7 pm on Friday was located on Beach Boulevard just south of Slater Avenue.
According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, the Los Angeles teenager became involved in an inter-vehicle fight after road rage spurred a confrontation. The vehicles pulled to the side of Beach Boulevard where the fight ensued, involving Sanchez and occupants of two other vehicles. According to reports, Sanchez most likely fell into the passing car as the result of being punched or pushed, which placed in him in the path of the vehicle.
Huntington Beach authorities arrived at the scene of the fight after a 7:01, at which time Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Investigation continues regarding the cause of both the road rage fight and accident. As of now, no arrests have been made.

A pedestrian on a highway in Spring Valley who was killed last Friday has now been identified as 51-year old Patrick Edward Crowe. According to reports, Crowe was on the shoulder of Highway 94 when he lunged into oncoming traffic, in the incident which occurred at around 10:40 am. Crowe died at the scene of the crash.
