Eating at restaurants is one of the most common activities people do everyday. Unfortunately, food poisoning can be a common occurrence among many of the restaurants in California.

While there is not one single cause of food poisoning, it can be attributed to many factors including: contaminated foods, poor sanitation, undercooked or under-prepared foods, bacteria, viruses, parasites, pesticides or other toxic or infectious agents. Most food poisoning cases are a result of bacteria like Staphylococcus or E. Coli.

Often times, food poisoning is the result of poor sanitation when a food handler, cook or chef does not wash their hands after using the restrooms, or has a contagious infection which is then transferred to the meats or vegetables that are served.

In most cases, food poisoning may cause a high fever, chills, diarrhea, nausea, cramping, vomiting, or in rare cases even death.

Food poisoning can occur at all types of restaurants including fast food restaurants, sushi restaurants, hospital cafeterias, cruise-line or cruise ship foods, hotel restaurants, buffets, school cafeterias and other places that serve meals.

If you or a loved one has suffered from food poisoning, it is important to seek immediate medical attention for possible dehydration and other bacterial or viral infections that may arise. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission along with Fisher-Price, Inc. announced yesterday that the toy-maker will be recalling nearly 1 million toys because the surface paints on the toys could contain excessive levels of lead paint that if swallowed or ingested could cause serious harm.

The recall involves toys manufactured by Fisher-Price between April 19, 2007 and July 6, 2007 with a date code between 109-7LF and 187-7LF which would be marked on the product itself.

If you have purchased toys that meet the specifications mentioned above, you should immediately remove the toys from areas where children would have access to and return the product(s) to Fisher-Price.

There are many health risks associated to lead poisoning and you can read about them here.
