Iranian-American UCLA Student Tasered

November 17, 2006 07:55 AM

My Letter to the UCLA Police Chief (PDF)

Mostafa Tabatabainejad, a UCLA student was shocked several times by campus police for refusing to show his school ID to community patrol officers.

The video above has shocked the community, me included. While it is critical for campus police to ensure the safety of its students, I question using a stun gun on anyone who has been handcuffed and is on the ground. I also question officers continued demand that Tabatabainejad stand up after he had been stunned. It is well known that the use of a Taser-gun results in temporary muscle collapse and too often death. How could he get up?

Above is a link to a letter I wrote to the Chief of UCLA Police where I have demanded the following:

• Immediate suspension of all UCLA Officers involved
• A complete, thorough and INDEPENDENT investigation into the events leading up to the incident
• A complete, thorough and INDEPENDENT investigation into why the victim was repeatedly and unnecessarily stunned
