In Fullerton, a man who was suspected of driving under the influence was tased by police when he attempted to flee the scene upon being questioned about possible drug use. The incident occurred Wednesday night at the intersection of Highland and Orangethorpe Avenue at around 7:50 p.m.. 39-year-old Robert Castro, the suspect in question, had tossed a meth pipe out of the passenger side window after he was stopped on the 300 block of west Orangethorpe Avenue.
After agreeing to answer questions, the man took off on foot when police took his driver’s license. Police followed suit and tased him. Castro was taken to St. Jude Medical center, but was later released. The man was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence and resisting arrest.
The story is a two fold tragedy—one that the man was abusing drugs in the first place, and secondly, that he was driving while under the influence of an illegal narcotic. Had Castro hit a pedestrian or another motorist and caused injuries or a fatality, he would have been held legally accountable. Thankfully, the cops were on their job and pulled him over before he had the chance to hurt anyone. Some victims are not so lucky.
