A 38-year-old man named Antonia Gonzales was working at the JSN Cosmetic Packaging Plant in Irvine when his clothing got caught in a machine he was performing maintenance on. The horrific accident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on the 9700 block of Jeronimo Road where the mechanic apparently became ensnared by the machine he was working on and was straggled by the equipment.
Gonzales was taken to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills after firefighters performed CPR on the man but could not revive him. A Compton resident, Gonzales died from his injuries around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. An OSHA investigation is underway and a full report will be issued after looking into the matter to see if the machinery was working properly.
If the Division of Occupational Safety and Health finds that the machines were indeed at fault for this unfortunate man’s demise, the Gonzales family will have the ability to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.
