As reported earlier in the week, a man that was known throughout his Norwalk neighborhood as a Good Samaritan who helped feed the homeless, was struck by a car after he attempted to rescue a suicidal woman. The man, a Mr. Charles Bybee, died Friday from his injuries. He was 62 years old.
Bybee was struck by the vehicle at around 9 p.m. Monday evening in the 1100 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue, and was taken to the UC Irvine Medical Center. He was later pronounced dead at 2:42 a.m. Friday morning. The rescued woman is herself unharmed and is being detained at a mental facility, where she is receiving treatment.
One could assume that man of this type of temperament would be glad to know the woman he saved is okay, but the loss is devastating for the community as well as his family.
