An innocent motorist was killed in Anaheim Monday evening after a suspect who was fleeing police plowed through an intersection against a red-light and crashed into two cars. As reported earlier in the week, a man that was known throughout his Norwalk neighborhood as a Good Samaritan who helped feed the homeless, was struck by a car after he attempted to rescue a suicidal woman.  The man, a Mr. Charles Bybee, died Friday from his injuries.  He was 62 years old.

Bybee was struck by the vehicle at around 9 p.m. Monday evening in the 1100 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue, and was taken to the UC Irvine Medical Center.  He  was later pronounced dead at 2:42 a.m. Friday morning. The rescued woman is herself unharmed and is being detained at a mental facility, where she is receiving treatment.

Six people were injured in Long Beach today after a fiery five car collision that closed the eastbound section of the Artesia Freeway (91).   At least one individual was critically injured and taken to an area hospital for medical treatment after the wreck.  The auto accident occurred between Cherry Avenue and Paramount Boulevard., around 4:50 a.m. and involved several automobiles.

One of the cars caught on fire shortly after impact and Long Beach firefighters were sent to the scene to extinguish the flames. Firemen also had to rescue a couple of individuals who were trapped in their cars.  Paramedics arrived on the scene and treated most of the injuries on site—one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

In Fullerton, a man who was suspected of driving under the influence was tased by police when he attempted to flee the scene upon being questioned about possible drug use. The incident occurred Wednesday night at the intersection of Highland and Orangethorpe Avenue at around 7:50 p.m..  39-year-old Robert Castro, the suspect in question, had tossed a meth pipe out of the passenger side window after he was stopped on the 300 block of west Orangethorpe Avenue.

After agreeing to answer questions, the man took off on foot when police took his driver’s license.  Police followed suit and tased him.  Castro was taken to St. Jude Medical center, but was later released.  The man was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence and resisting arrest.

The story is a two fold tragedy—one that the man was abusing drugs in the first place, and secondly, that he was driving while under the influence of an illegal narcotic.  Had Castro hit a pedestrian or another motorist and caused injuries or a fatality, he would have been held legally accountable.  Thankfully,  the cops were on their job and pulled him over before he had the chance to hurt anyone. A crash that took place near the Nevada State line killed a San Fernando Valley woman, aged 24, who was involved in the car accident on Monday afternoon. A motorcycle crash on Pepper Street shut down traffic for two hours on the eastbound section of Interstate 10 in Colton.  The accident was reported at 3:48 a.m. and the driver was killed.  Details are minimal at best and the accident itself is being investigated.

The woman killed in a car accident on I-15 has now been identified as Brenda Lisette Chavez. Chavez was involved in an accident on Monday, where she was a passenger in a 2005 Ford Fusion. During the car accident, the driver overturned the car, killing its passenger, Chavez. The 2:15 Monday afternoon accident occurred south of Bailey Toad in Mountain Pass.
